Stock gearshift ****?

I still have the stock gearshift **** - leather wrapped, etc.

Has anyone else had this problem where the leather becomes loose and will actually turn and give you the impression where it feels as though you're twisting it off? It started out a few years ago and is progressively getting worse.

Obviously I could just look into a new/alternate ****, but is there any suggestions on how to fix this one?

Jeff

I'm wondering (based on the characteristics of leather) if I soak it in water for a period, if that would tighten it up?

Soaking it in water would definately ruin the leather. Look for a replacement or try an aftermarket. There are plenty of people selling used ***** around here. You just have to look.

I tried to soak my **** in water but, it just got smaller!!!

Buy a new one. Inexpensive. Lots of aftermarket stuff. Try one from a Firebird for something different.

The leather on my **** was loose also, so I bought a Hurst short throw shifter and ****. Very easy to install, makes driving the car a little more fun. $200 shipped from Summit.
I never tried to fix the stock ****.

Has anyone ever cut the leather off entirely? Upon closer inspection, it appears to be textured plastic underneath, but I'm not going to make any cuts before asking...

I've never seen an unwrapped stock ****, I thought they all came wrapped.

I'm cheap too and so I learned to enjoy my spinning ****. I'll be replacing it with a Hurst Sidewinder (the one with the button) so I can use a line lock with it soon though.

I used a precision glue applicator and put some glue underneath the leather, it worked great until I replaced with a Hurst **** from a 01-02 car.

Something along this line will be my next step.

I like the cueball sized leather feel, just not the 'spinning.' - Sorry there Counted Out.
