Re: SS hood identification
hate to be the bearer of bad news, but from what I can see, this is definitely not a genuine 1996-1997 SS hood.
Reasons:
a) SLP never engraved the "3.346.5" number set that appears in your second picture.
b) It appears to be missing the horizontal "break" areas. These are in place to ensure that the hood folds up properly in a front end collision. The 2 main vertical ribs, the ones that seem to form a "V", should have horizontal notched out sections directly in front of the hood strut attachment points (towards the nose of the car) and, there should also be shallow groove lines that go across the hood in the flat areas.
c) The hood should say "Made in Canada" on the drivers side rear corner section.
d) The front drain holes, around the latch area are not large enough and are not properly located.
e) All of the major raised rib areas appear to be too shallow in height.
f) There should be a continuous flange that goes all the way across the rear edge of the hood.
Do you have better pictures?
Most of the knock-off hoods get the air scoop entry wrong.
