So I just won a '00 Console, and...

Was wondering if anyone had any tips on putting it in. I've got this post from Project TA bookmarked, but was wondering if there were any other words of wisdom.

Now I am just hoping it is in pretty good shape - my butt is feeling a little sore after paying $75 (shipped) for a piece of plastic.

It installs pretty easily. The only thing that sucks is the gap that's between the stereo and the top of the new style console. I helped my friend install one in his 96 Camaro and we built a little box to hold his equilizer and put it in the gap. I want to do something else, so if you figure something out, let me know! I want to do this mod, but I can't stand that gap!

Well then maybe it's not too bad. I just know of some people getting them for $50 shipped and such. Maybe it will be worth it though. Good to see you still post here too - glad you didn't disown the board when you did your car.

TechCam97 - one of my buddies said when he installed a stero on his Tacoma it came with a little "junk holder" that looked about like the one on Dreamer1q's car. His is out of a mid-90's Mustang is all I know. But I am gonna go for something like that.

I did this a while back when I had my 95 Z28. I used this writeup:

Here's some pics of my old car.

I don't see why you all would even want to do that, there doesn't appear to be any difference between the new and old except the old fits better.

If you had the older kind yourself you'd know. There's only one cupholder (instead of 4), and it's prone to spilling your drink right into your shifter. Plus there are little engraved lines everywhere that get buildups of gunk in there and you can't get it out. Also the pocket has to be held open while you get something out. It's pretty annoying when you're driving. Oh and there's two power outlets on the new one as opposed to one on the old one. Plus the old one seemed to squeak more.

and the biggest reason, go to any older z, and take a look, er, open the compartment in the center console.

just make sure you dont open it up and it falls away.
