slyvania silverstar bulbs in camaro rock!

I opened up my sealed beams today and replaced the crappy bulbs with silverstars. The difference is night and day. I can actually see now when im driving at night. I would recommend that everyone with a camaro do it. I dont know why i didnt do it like 3 years ago. Just thought i would share my experience, i know its been done before, i just wanted to reaffirm it. -Michael

Ya i like the bulbs too.

Only thing, wait until you drive in the rain/fog/wet roads. They SUCK then. For whatever reason, they dont light up/reflect anything with moisture on the road/air/

Fozzie, when you were doing this, did it look like this could be done to a Firebird. Has anyone done this to a Firebird?

oh, I didn't know that. Kind of strange they make them for the firebird but yet there's more Camaro's out there and they don't make it for them.

I took the sealed beams apart and put some o them ricer bulbs in em (can,t or don,t want to remember the name) and then I put the low beams on the inside and the highs on the outside (yes its not DOT legal but aint had a problem yet) did this years ago and its much better at nite than the stock setup.

Re: slyvania silverstar SUCK

Ok.. here we go again.

- Silverstars = junk
- AutoOptiks = junk
- Streetglow = junk
- Eurodezigns = junk

- Any tinted bulb less than 80W will put out less illumination vs. stock.

- Best "illumination" for the buck = Ichibahn 130W 9006 and 9005 bulbs.

- Mercedez Style HID appearance = Nokya 4300K 80W or Krypton Showoff 4300k 80w 9005 bulbs

- Lexus Style HID appearance= 5000k FX 100W bulbs

- BMW / Audi style HID appearance = 7000k Stage II Noyka, or Noyka Arctic purple bulbs

I used PIAA Hyperwhite in mine. Paid like $60 for both. They made a nice difference. For anyone wanting to do the sealed beam mod you dont need a torch to take them apart but it proably helps. I just used a flat screwdriver and carefully pried mine off. The good thing is if you mess this up you can buy another one pretty cheap.

For good reason. High beams aren't a concentrated beam. Notice that they don't have a silver tip on the end like the lows. This means that when you out a high beam bulb in the low beam spot, it is higher wattage/more light, but it is more diffused, so it isn't really gaining anything, it is probably in fact losing some light.

Why do you think the low beams stay on when the highs come on on a quad headlight system?

I personally like Silverstars, but I also think that there are better bulbs out there. For the availability though - Silverstars are the most reasonble bulb probably for most.

The point is, most people that like silverstars HAVE ONLY USED silverstars. The exception is probably Bowtie. THAT'S the point. I have tried 90% of the bulbs available, in just about every configuration possible and am just trying to save people time and money by learning from my mistakes.
