show quality interior
Re: show quality interior
Im still waiting for the day I get to do another 3rd gen street car . Ive got some pretty cool Ideas I think neways that I'll unload on you that I wanna/will do to a 3rd gen interior . My tastes are pretty upscale and I would wanna make an audi type atmoshere in a 3rd gen . Ready to bust out the coin , lol
The carpet would be black , and bought thru Fbodycarpets.com . Its a mercedes comparable carpet . Thick , plush and very rich looking . For the seats I would use 4th gen 97-2002 seats and have them recovered in black leather with black suede on the center insets . The leather I would really picky about as some leather is a little on the shiney side and looks like *** . For the headliner I would definately make it very light grey like in most newer cars .It looks great and bightens up a dark interior pretty good . Out would go the mouse fur though . I would have the headliner covered in a tweed type material . Look in a new Audi/vdub , grand prix to see what I mean . I would also have the a-pillar trim covered with headliner material as well , as its a really classy touch ....Im in the process of doing this now with my convertible with the twee headliner and a pillars . The top dash pad I would have recovered in very matte leather . All of the interior plastic including the dash core I would dye to a much flatter black . GM interior plastics are way to shiney I think and it looks booty . If dyed and prepped right it will last forever . The lower dash ( like the knee bolster ) I would cover in the same suede as the seat inserts and try to blend it into the door panels much like in the new GTO's interior . For the guages , I would have new faces made by blackcatcustoms that appear factory( black faces ) but illuminate bright white as opposed to the horrid yellow . I would strip the paint off the back of the factory needles and re-spray them with a transparent red ( stained glass spray works awesome ) . Then you spray 1 thin layer of white over the red ONLY on the back of the needle so it looks bright red during the day and when lit , that layer of white contains all the light in the needle ( thats how the OEMs do it ) I would take the factory 90-92 guage bezel and use real aluminum stock to fab an aluminum ring around all the guage cutouts . All other extra guages would be from THIS company . And with the exception of the guages , everything else will aluminate red . I dunno if youve ever seen an Audi dash lit at night , but its a really cool effect . Working on into the center console . I would use a 98-02 f-body console but really spend the time to fab it into the upper pod and basically reconfigure the upper pod . Not in shape , but how stuff mounts . I would used a navigation radio ( double din chassis ) out of a 2003-2004 pontiac vibe which will run of old school GM electronics ( the vibe doesnt use Class 2 electronics) and use 97-02 camaro hvac controls and change the back lighting to red . The top plate of the dash would be fabbed out of aluminum and have a satin brushed appearence . The lower part of the console would be covered in the same carpet as the floor . For the steering wheel I would used a wheel from a 2004 grand prix and have a custom bowtie emblem made to replace the GP one . The paddle shifters could be made to work for a line loc or nitrous or what ever . All you have to do to make the newer GM wheels work on a older column is swap your upper steering shaft for the newer shaft . HERE'S a look at a 2004 Bonneville steering wheel in mine , as well a double din chassis 2004 vibe in dash 6 disc changer radio with a custom shaped bezel . Also ditched all the light grey grey pontiac buttons and made them ebony .
Maybe youll get some useful ideas outa here . Good luck bro , your 3rd gen is absolutely gorgeous .
