shift light mounting idea

I think I'd like a shift light, but I hate the way they look mounted on the dash. I was thinking I'd mount the electronic control part of it somewhere inconspicuous, like in the glove box or something, then run the wiring to the light behind the dash and up into a pod on an A pillar gauge pod. I'd put some kind of translucent lens over the front of the pod so there wouldn't just be a light sitting there, probably a dark purple that would look dark but would light up nice and bright. Has anybody ever done anything like this?

I mounted a mini quick lite shift light on the steering column, I ran the wire underneath the panel and you can't see the wire. just an idea

Yup... do it all the time for work.. it's called black-facing... basically just a piece of tinted plastic that you prevent any light from getting behind so it only lights up when the light is turned on... concept is easy, application isn't so.

I'd say it can be done, and go a head and try it.

Hide it in the ac vent. Seen it done and looks slick.

air vent on left side of steering wheel
no cover
covered

i had to remove the moveable fins inside the vent, then i just pressed it into the vent tubing. no bolts or anything to mess with and it's never come loose.

its easy to pull out for adjustments too.
