took out the rear seats a long time ago and not plan on putting them back so I'm taking off the rear seat belts. Question is the bolt in the trunk holding the seatbelt...does it do anything else or just hold the seat belt in place?

 

There is only one way to find out take the bolt out if you hear something *clang* then it's too late

 

well...took it off and no clang....but then again my car is parked

 

I seriously doubt gm would tie something important if anything at all into a setbelt bolt that would make having to take the carpet out a huge hassle

 

just finished taking the bolt out and nope, not tied in with anything else. Just have to get a start bit b/c the one in the pass side seems to be a bit stripped and the the bit that I was using to take the other seat belt out is not working anymore. Worked find with the other three bolts and wouldn't you know it...the last bolt always gives you the most trouble.
