Removing vinyl stripes question

Anyone thats done this already, how did you do it and did you have any problems with the paint afterwards? Things Im worried about mostly is miscolored paint (from the sun, etc) and flat out damaging the paint while removing it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Removing vinyl stripes question

I've removed mine after they were on for like 6 months. So they were relatively freshly applied didn't have any paint problems. You shouldn't have any problems either becuase the vinyl protects the paint underneath, the only "problem: would be if the rest of the car has been neglected and the paint is faded the striped paint area would be brighter. Again, I also removed my Z28 badges just last year on my 96 Z, the paint under theur was fine matched perfectly with the rest of the car.

AS far as taking the vinyl off, what I did is just peel it up with and just slowly pull it off. It is probably easier when it is warm outside, I guess you could also use a hair dryer to help it along. When you get the vinyl off, there is bound to be some residue adhesive left. What you can do is use rubbing alcohol or WD40 to see if it dissolves the glue. After I did that I went over the area with polishing compound then reapplied wax.

If you dont mind me asking, why did you remove your stripes? They look great in the pic. White/Orange is my favorite combo.

I still have them, car looks like it does in the pic white/orange. I removed the stripes because when they were applied, they had some bubbles and were cut to short so I had the shop do them over again.I just took the stripes off and the shop reapplied them, this time it came out great.

The stripes themselves should not damage or discolor the paint. What you might find though is that after the stripes are removed the paint is brighter or a different color. This is because the paint under the stripes have stayed protected while the paint around the stripes may be sun faded.

I removed my stripes a couple of times. Just peeled them up and then removed the residual adhesive with something like Goo Gone or bumper sticker remover.
