Removing Center Console "?"

I'm in the middle of the 97+ console swap. I'm having a little trouble removing the old console though. All 4 screws undone, shifter plate off. I'm having trouble clearing the parking brake and the large "cubby hole" for tapes and stuff.

Pretty annoying...I'm trying not to damage anything...

Any pointers?

The tape cubby hole comes off with the old console - there is 2 bolts in the back of it I think? I think you gotta remove the parking brake handle - but not sure on that.

And a helpful link if you don't already have it...

Thanks for the site...I hadn't seen that one before.

I think what I really need is to get the parking brake handle off. There was a space for a screw, I believe, on the driver's side of it. The screw is out...I don't see any other connections for it.

The guide doesn't discuss it, so maybe I'm missing something obvious?

Nevermind....I guess you have to use your muscles for this one.

Pull the paking lever up hard enough and there's enough room.

Take a screwdriver to the brake handle mechanism, there's a small latch in the mechanism, if you release the latch, it'll let you teke the handle totally vertical, makes it really easy to get the concole out...
