removing body moulding
Has anybody removed the body moulding on the doors on thier 93 to 97 trans am? I have a white TA and the moulding is discolered. Was wondering what it would look like without it.
I have removed mine, and I know several others that also have, and it looks great. The car just looks much cleaner without that crap no it. I just used a hair dryer, and some fishing string to remove it. I had to go along after removing it and just rub off the remaining goo with my fingers.

It's funny that you brought this topic up because I've been ready to post on this myself. I have a white TA and the moldings seem to only get worse. But I do like having the molding there.
I was wondering, can they be bought from the factory and if so how much??
There have been plenty of owners on LS1.com who've shown pics of theirs' with molding removed (check the appearance section).

im probable gonna remove mine. but one thing my dad brought up is if ur in a parking lot and someone opens their door into urs, the molding is gonna save u a **** load of work. painting a rubber molding is easyer that taking a crease out of a door like the one my cousin just got. i park so far out in the parking lot after my quarter panel got smashed by a door, that no one can reach it.
I park all the way in the back of parking lots anyway just for that reason. I tried everything except painting them and they are still yellowish. Parts of it are crooked as well. I was thinking it would be easier to just pull them off.
I am also interested in taking mine off...
I have seen Camaros without them, and they look good.
The only thing that I am worried about is will the paint underneath still look good? and what should I use to remove the goo that would be safe on the paint?
Later,
matt

Um our doors will not crease, they are not made out of metal! However the paint can still be chipped! With all of the stupid SUV's around these days your more likely to get hit above the molding anyway
I have seen a fender get a big crease in it from a truck door, but the fenders are made out of a different material than the door skin.

I don't have a TA but my Camaro is Red and my moulding started flaking and turned pink
You know those came off quick!!!
I have not seen it an a TA yet but I like how removing it cleaned up the lines of the car. Now when I see a stock one it looks like someone stuck on those strips you buy in rolls at walmart

There is too much concern here for losing the functionality of the moldings. They are too low to protect the cars from SUVs and minivans... the majority of vehicles on the road.
All my parking scars are above the molding, my wife's Montana contacts the car above the molding.
Where it would do the most good is on the metal quarters, but it extends only over a small part of that anyway.
IMO they are useless.
I took mine off with a hair dryer to loosen them, then took the car to the enclosed 'self serve' carwash to blow off the adhesive with high pressure water. The water took the stuff off at a decent rate, but I ran out of quarters after washing the car. A couple more minutes would have done the trick. So now the car has tape remnants down the sides... It's too cold to do anything about it. The water on the car turned to a sheet of ice as soon as I pulled out of the wash bay.
Next decent day we have I'll finish it. I am excited to see what it will look like. I have yet to see a black Z with !molding.
Anyway, just do it.
Good luck
Dave
