Angry Removed my old Z28 for a 69 emblem

After I pulled the drivers side fender emblem off and cleaned up all the area, I noticed the paint is all messed up right there. It made a Z28 outline in thicker clear coat it looks like. I can get my finger nail under it, its like there is clear missing where the emblem is. Can i wet sand this edge with 2000+ grit to get it smooth? But on the edge it looks like theres possibly primer exposed

So i dunno, im guessing i have to repaint the fender

It sounds like the clear came off with the emblem. I don't think that I would try to wet sand it until you have it looked at by a body shop. If the paint is really dull where it is flaked off, there may not be any clear left and you don't want to sand too much on the base coat. Take it to a body shop, they may be able to just clear it and have it be fine.

Any idea why the clear would come off with the emblem? What would cause this?

I guess i'll just have a body shop look at it. But more input is definetly appreciated

MAN! I just realized what it is. I noticed paint on the top of the z28 emblem and it has to be from when i supposedly had my fender "replaced" and repainted. Well it sure didnt look like he gave me a new fender, but he repainted it without even taking off the old z28 emblem off. He taped around the emblem now that its off, its much thinner right there!

He ****ed up on the paint job once, and he repainted for free. He does pretty ****ty work!

Do not go to

And if anyone knows these guys you can show them this!

Yea, it sounds like you got ripped! If that is what he did, you could just take it to a body shop that you trust and they may be able to clean it up and clear a portion of the fender to blend it and then you can put your emblems back on. Sorry to hear that you got ripped.

Yep, was just going to suggest that it was probably a repaint but I see you confirmed that

I doubt you'll be able to wet sand it and have it look acceptable without having future problems too. Your best bet is to put the Z28 emblem back on IMO. If that is out of the question and you really want to use the older style emblems, looks like you'll at least need to get that fender recleared... maybe not repainted but recleared. Might not cost too much to do that.
