Angry rear window trim coming off, what to do?

the plastic trim around my rear window is braking away in spots and the sealant is oozing out, can I just remove all of it, or will it leak? thanks in advanced

i have a 97z and the plastic trim has been coming off over the past couple of months. Have not seen any leaking yet, but plan on replacing it soon.

If you are talking about the plastic trim that outlines the window, I believe it is purely cosmetic and will not cause leaks. I could be wrong. I did a search awhile back and found that the replacement is about $25-$30 from the dealership.

I think I'm just going to take it all off, I think it would look "cleaner" that way. thanks for all the help, I'll let you guys know how it looks when I'm done, and if it leaks.

My '95 didn't have any on the rear window when I bought it, and I never had leaks......I'd suggest taking it off until you can replace it, it will look fine.......(for a while, I didn't know it was supposed to have any on it anyway).

Mine is falling off also at the bottom edges of both sides. Being a black/black car it gets REALLY hot in the summer and the black tar stuff leaks out on the rear hatch and is GROSS! I've read previous posts on the topic and a black rubber unit is available to replace the plastic stock unit. I had considered just digging out the remaining tar GOO and just use black silicone to put it back in place instead of removing and cleaning the whole mess!
