Hi, I just picked up a white '96 Camaro, and the black area around the headlights is very faded. I want to repaint this area gloss black, and I was wondering if anyone had any good strategies on how to tape off the lights. I want to try this myslef, but I think the taping is going to be a little tricky on the curved part of the fender.

Tape off the lights? I'd take them out... take out the lights and the remove the metal ring around the lights... lots easier

 

If they aren't really bad, I've had good results with taking rubbing compound and bringing the shine back.

I will say that painting them is going to make them look really nice though.
Just make sure you paper up a little on the hood.
Black overspray shows up really well on white so make sure your spraying in a garage or on a day with little or no wind if working outside.
Just grab the sunday paper and you'll have enough to cover half the car...
