Question Quick Caliper Painting Questions....

Hey,

I am going to paint my calipers red next weekend and had a few quick questions. What paint did you use, I read a bad story about the duplicolor, and then some good ones?? I plan on using ckear primer, then 3 coats paint, then adding the camaro decals i got from afterthoughtsauto.com, then 3 coats clear coat, does this sound right? Oh, and will the decals from afterthoughtsauto fit on out lt1 brake calipers?, i have only seen them on ls1 calipers. Thanks for the help. Oh yeah, think I should pull the calipers off??

Oh, Crap, forgot one, where did you get the duplicolor paint/ clear coat, and clear primer, would a autozone carry this? Or more of a specialty paints place?
Thanks!

I used Metali-Coat or something like that on mine. Its supposed to look "annodized." I picked it cuz the color was pretty close to my car.

I put down 2 or 3 coats of a basic primer, then 2 or 3 coats of the basecoat for this type of paint, and then 2 or 3 coats of the color.

I thought it came out looking quite nice.

Here is a .LINK to pics of my car. Within that thread there is a series of pics from my caliper painting process.

The first I did was spray them off with some brake cleaner, get out the wire brushes and get them down to the smooth metal. I used the VHT Caliper Paint, put on several coats to make sure everything was painted. Then sprayed on 3-4 coats of automotive clear coat. I must say if you take your time they will come out good. Just watch out for overspray.

I used dupli color High heat with ceramic (1200F) the code is RED DH1608, got it from autozone. I too used brake dust cleaner and a wire brush. Then 2 coats primer, I think 3-4 coats of the red, put on chrome formula decals and then a couple coats of clear. Took a while, but they turned out great, did them a about 5 months back and they still look like the day I painted them after washing it.
