Question about the Rear View Mirror

I was thinking of changing the rear view mirror in my Z to one that has the compass and the auto dimming feature...
The Factory mirror in my car has two little sensor looking things on the back that you can see through the windshield. The only thing I can think of that they might be are sensors for the Keyless entry or something? I dont want to take the factory one out if there is something proprietary about it with my car. Anyone know?

i could be wrong but if your talking about the slots at the top i think they are just there to let the heat from the lights escape.

im not sure if our cars are the same but my 98 bird mirror was broke because of an electrical problem so i took it off and my alarm/keyless entry still worked. oh and my mirror is fixed to. so i guess that means you can change it.
