quasar blue/black color scheme
quasar blue/black color scheme
I just got a qusar blue 96 Z with an SS hood with hood pins and stock spoiler. I had been looking for a black car because I have a black SS hood and hatch/spoiler I was going to add along with my SS wheels.
Well since I got the blue car I have four choices 1) leave it as is (I hate the hood pins and a rock skipped up the hood before I bought it so it's scratched 2) paint the black hood and spoiler blue (quoted ~$1000) 3) paint the spoiler blue myself leave the blue hood alone (the spoiler has less surface area than the hood so I think I could make it look ok) 4) leave the hood and hatch/spoiler black and put it on...black headlight pockets, hood, mirrors, roof, hatch, spoiler...basically the top of the car black and the rest blue.
The last option was suggested to me and I'm not so sure. Has anyone seen anything like that. I think it could either look good or real bad.

Paint them to match the car. 1000 for both is pretty dang steep. I payed 400 total to get both my hood and spoiler done. Plus, my hood was two tone and all work was done with high quality material.
Maybe you should contact some other body shops.

You could do that, but to really pull it off you'd have to go black a couple of inches down the side and do some sort of stripe. That option will only cost you some time so I'd give it a shot for the hell of it. If you don't like it paint them blue. If you do then have someone finish off the two tone when you get the money. That'll cost a little more than painting just the hood/ hatch in the long run though.
If it were me, I'd replace the awful pin on hood with the real SS hood and spoiler and paint them blue.
Medium Quasar Blue wasn't an available SS color in '96 or '97 (you couldn't get one in that color although you could get a Z28 in that color), so you'd have yourself something really nice and unique.

My recommendation to you:
Paint the hood quasar blue, paint the ss hood scoop black...lose the hood w/ the pins.
This is my plan for my QBM camaro as well...I just haven't gotten around to painting the scoop yet.
This is not my car...I believe its a fellow members on this site, but heres what the hood looks like w/ the black:

Looking at this pic again...this is an SS style hood, but the scoop sits definitely higher than the one I have on my car. I think it looks mean.

wow that car really does look nice. it's nice to see it with those wheels too since that is what is going on. I also have some waxing to do!
The black scoop isn't really an option as nice as it looks...I'm only planning on keeping this car long enough to buy the new one. I had planned to paint the scoop gunmetal on my black ss, but i didn't get the chance.
I still don't know what I'll do...I'm leaning towards dealing with the hood pins as much as I hate them and painting the SS spoiler myself. I think I agree that the only way to make the black/blue theme look good is to paint down the side of the car a little.
