is it possible to replace just the headlamp lenses?
hey guys, i just bought a new car and it's flawless except for the headlamp lenses are yellow and foggy. I want to replace them with some nice clear ones, and I was wondering if it's possible to just buy the lens and not the entire assembly, and where I can buy them, because the entire things cost $295 each.
You just need to clean them up probably...there is some Dupont Polish that works real well (Dupont 1000 maybe???) but it should all come off...Might want to try the Show-n-shine section...someone in there would porbably know what would clean it best. I would at least try it before buying new ones.
Headlamp Lens Replacements
Regarding the headlamp lens replacement, ALL composite (aerodynamic) lamps manufactured in the US since they were first approved for use by NHTSA in 1984 required that the lenses (glass of plastic) be permantently bonded to the housings. Chances are you'll have to replace the entire lamp (lens and housing assembly).
Regarding the yellowing of the lenses, it's most likely the hardcoating on the lens (sprayed onto the lens when manufactured to stabilize the plastic against abrasion and UV light) is bad. Typically, the ONLY solution is to replace the entire lamp. (Even if you are able to polish the yellow off the top layer of hardcoating, it's only a matter of time before it returns. Sorry.
