polyurethane ground effects

My friend has a '98 Z28 and he just got some ground effects, but they aren't bent enough in the front to fit right. How do you bend them to put them on? It seems like they have so much resistance when you bend them cold that they would be under a lot of stress if he put them on as is.

He left them out in the sun and they fit perfectly. Now I just have to convince him not to paint them black on his RED car
