Plastic License Plate Sheilds / Covers ?
Now I'm really curious if anyone will fess up to having one of these clear or smoked dark plastic license plate covers over their rear state registration plate.
If so, why? I'd like specific reasons for this. If and when I get some replies I'll explain why I'm asking.

i think that a smoke out licence plate cover on the back, on a dark coloured car makes it look cleaner. For example on a black car, you would have the nice black bumper, and right in the middle of it, a nice shiny reflective plate. the cover kind of dulls it out and makes it look cleaner. just my thoughts.

I had one on two black trucks I use to own. I had a black plate cover on a black 1990 454 SS I had and one also on a 1995 black S-10 SS I had. I don't have the plate cover any more because I sold it. It did make the trucks appear alot cleaner in the back. I wouldnt recomend getting one tho because they car be alot of trouble if they are illegal in your state. It is in Texas and I did not know it when I bought the thing. I never got a ticket for it, but I did get stoped a few times because I had it on.

I've used smoked and clear license plate covers before on a couple different cars. Yes, they are illegal in my state just like window tint which I have as well. I use them for looks. It just makes the back end look smoother IMO. I recommend them for looks IF you are willing to deal with the consequences if caught. Most cops I run into do not even metion them kinda like the tint. they know it is illegal, but really don't seem to bother a lot of people about them.

Plate cover
I have them on my car too, but if you ask me if they are a good idea . . . I would have to say no! Greatly due to the fact that they are illegal in most states. In my state the plates are blue and white, they look bad against the red on my car. With the tinted plate cover, it hides the contrast and gives the car a cleaner look.

I've got smoked plate covers on both the front and back of my car. I put the one on the front in particular to protect the plate from stone chips, etc., and figured while I was at it I might as well put one on the back too! On the black car, I think they make it so the plates aren't such an ugly contrast.

i have a pretty dark smoked one on the rear of my car, and like Drumhawk said, the harder it is to read my plates the better off! i had personalized plates, until the first time i got the cops called on me and realized it was really easy to memorize them, then went and got randon numbers! im guessing that its not illegal in IL to have them, but i bought it in IN and they said that i WOULD get pulled over for it in IL! but i have been warned three times about not having a front plate on, and finally got a ticket for it, but have never been bothered with the tinted cover, there is just one cop in town that has to pull everyone over for not having a front plate, and it seems like the rest could care less!

im not too sure if its illegal here in ontario, but to be quite honest, I dont really care. You can still read my plate. I just think that a white/blue reflective plate looks silly on the *** of a nice black car.

I was pulled over last summer by the biggest a$$-hle cop ever, who threatened to charge me with careless driving "because of my attitude" (not for actual careless driving) and yet he didn't say anything about the plate cover. I think he was looking for something to charge me with, but he let me go (honestly, I hadn't done anything to deserve being pulled over........I think it was just a "token" stop for being 21-years-old in a 2002 Z28 ).
