Pearl white base coat with black on top?
Pearl white base coat with black on top?
I'm going to be painting my car soon, and I'm thinking about color changing it to black. A few people I know suggested a pearl white base coat under the black, but I didn't understand their explanations for what that will do to the final look of the paint job. Does anybody here have a way of explaining it? A few guys told me that it will look cool, but like I said, I didn't understand what they meant. If I like how it sounds then I guess it can't hurt to try it...my friend owns the shop that will be painting it and basically as long as I help with all the time consuming stuff I pretty much just need to pay for supplies and help out around the shop a bit, so if all I need is another coat of paint under the black, then I'm all for it.
I am certainly no expert on the subject of paint. But I will relay what little information I have. My friend was getting his bike painted at a custom shop, airbrushing and all. Well the shop had this bad **** Dodge charger with a beautiful paint job. We asked how it was done, and the guy said he had two different colors under the top color. The top was some sort of candy pearl/metallic red. But to achieve that, he had painted pearl/metallic (sparkley) YELLOW underneath! I didn't belive him, so he showed me some parts that were still being painted that were indeed yellow, but would be finished red. The moral to the story, let the pros do their work! A pearl white underneath the black may give the black that extra shine without looking too metallic. I dunno. Maybe someone will chime in and explain more -
