The bezel and lens on a 97 are the same as 93-96... if you want DRL's, you need to buy a DRL conversion kit... availble at any GM dealership, I believe.

It's not the bulbs...

DRL's run all the time by themselves, not like turning your parking lights on.

DRL's burn the bulb at the higher intensity (like when you have your turn signal on, only solid), while simply turning your parking lights on burns the bulb at the lower intensity (as well as lighting your dash lights, taillights, and side marker lights).

Also, if you are going to change the bulbs (though this won't help for what you are trying to accomplish) ... go at them from underneath the front fascia... not through the engine bay... much easier!

Follow that - much cheaper and probably easier than whatever "kit" there is supposed to be from the factory.

You can also wire this in to come on with your ignition - just like your radio - same basic principle. But the guide there shows you how to do it with a toggle switch, so if you aren't comfortable wiring, I suggest that method.

im good with wiring, but i dont really want a toggle switch, im gonna have to find another way to make them turn on. im still confused about what u do at night?? do u have to turn them on with the toggle switch or what? can u just leave the switch always on?

Arrow

You seem to have your problem worked out... it's the DRLs that are brighter than your parking lights.
But just for the record:
Front signal lamp housings are identical and interchangeable from 93-02
