Paintshop options? Suggestions?

ok, in the near future i want to have my car repainted. Just the outside. I want it done right though, a top notch job. Does anybody have any shops they recommend? what kind of price am I looking at also? Right now the whole car is burgundy but i wouldnt mind having the roof painted black as well as the side mirrors. Ive had repair shops paint stuff before (front bumper) after a fender bender and after a few years the paint has started to crack and flake off, i can see the black bumper underneath perfectly, looks like they didnt do a good prep job. Any ideas, just rollin it around in my head a bit

I can't recommend anything out that way but the going rate for a nice paint is about 4000+ usually. I would say a real beautiful paint is around 8000. You can go out and spend 10000+ on paint so it really comes down to how nice you want, also how much you want to spend.

I was told that to get my roof repainted black and clearcoated by a great painter that it would cost me $500.

...that was before I mentioned wanting my side mirrors, door handles, and key-lock cylinders repainted black as well...

jeez, at this rate, maybe i should just pay to take an auto body paint class at the local community college(a few hundred bucks), then paint it myself, (a few hundred more bucks in supplies)

momma always said if ya want something done right ya gotta do it yourself,(priceless), haha

Unfortunately, I doubt you could do a great paint job yourself (no offense). It's a lot more difficult than just airbrushing toy cars and models unfortunately. You have to have a good spray gun, bake the paint, use catalysts, and a lot of other stuff I don't understand.

If you want a really cheap paint job that will look good for a couple years, go to MAACO collision repair (or is is MACO?) and they will probably paint it for less than $1000.

However, do remember. The front and back bumpers require a flex additive to prevent the paint from cracking when you hit bumps and other stuff because the plastic jiggles a lot and it'll crack the paint if the additive isn't in there.

In my case though, I'm just going to suck it up and hire the guy who does the paint touchup work for the local Cadillac dealership. I want it to look great and last for another 12 years.
