Painting the underside. Need advice.

I have the car up on axle stands for a major winter project. The motor is out as well as the entire suspension.

As I was laying under the car it struck me that it might be nice to paint the underside a gloss black (the car is black)

I know nothing about painting and it does not have to be a great job.

My questions is, now would I paint the underside? I don't want to spray paint it because of the need to mask and it is in my garage, etc.

Would it look OK to hand paint it? What would I have to do to improve the finish? What paint.

not sure if you want to paint it, but most people spray on some sound deadning on the entire underbody.

Hey Shawn, what I've done was pick up some premium undercoating at cdn. tire. It has a glossy black finish and there a rubber compound in it for extra protection. You won't have to mask of the car because it's pretty thickand no fumes. It's runs for about 10 bucks a can, you'll need 3 cans to do your underside. It's mostly used for rocker panels, that's why it has that glossy effect. But in my opinion, perfect for the underside and us gearheads.

Michael.

P.S

Glad to see you'll be able to make it out on Nov.2

what about http://www.por-15.com/ ? it paints on w/ a bristle or foam brush and is autoleveling for a smooth finish and is very durable.

Don't you have to do a few other steps before using the POR-15? With the rubberized spray on coating is anything needed before the application?
