Painting my front bumper, any advice?

Just as the title says, I plan on painting my front bumper with in the next couple weeks. I've never painted before, but my dad is going to help me with that. I'm pretty sure I can get the front bumper off alright, but are there any tips you guys can give me before I undertake this task?

Build a stand to set it on so you can get to every side easily.

if you are painting in a garage close the door almost all the way and put a fan pointing towards the outside so it blows out the fog and dust.

Wet down the floor also so no dust will blow up onto the piece.

Are you doing single stage or base and clear?

I am going to do it in a garage. I plan on hanging plastic sheets to help fight the dust. I'll make sure I wet the floor down, I didn't think about that. I'm going to be doing a base and clear coat.

your car is white right?... and unless your a experience painter, even with the paint code, that only gets it close, you have to make up for the bumper being whatever color it is, if it's black i recommend covering it in silver first and that will help a lot. then you have to make up for what ever factory defects were in the color. if you look at factory white cars...the bumpers are always a different tint than the rest of a car. but if that doesn't matter to ya, just put the clear on fast and even and let it sit 10 min inbetween coats....put on about three coats so you can fix any runs. it's probably gonna run too, because painting with clear is like painting with water.

Alright...Thanks guys for your input. I'll probably just get the Arctic white paint and paint it. I'll make sure I remember about the clear coat.

If you get any trash in the paint when painting the base coat go ahead and wet sand it with 1200 grit that way you don't have any imperfections you can't get too when you clear it.

thin coats, too! VERY THIN COATS! I tried painting my front bumper a few times to get rid of / hide the spiderwebbing.. came out a darker tint and it ran on the sides. ah well, the price you pay for doing it yourself.
