Talking Painting my bottle :)

Well im gonna continue with the red black thing ive always loved.

The brackets are black(just repainted them) and the bottle right now is black as well. But im gonna sand it down and paint it anodized red, clearcoat it then throw on a vinyl NX sticker

Hope it turns out good. Ill get pics up tomorrow or so

Re: Painting my bottle :)

Im in the process of doing my SLP CAI. Ever since I saw the valvecovers that guy did a while back I couldnt resist. (edit: this thread) Ive got it polished down, and its soaking in the sink right now before i paint it.

what metal is the bottle made of? If its aluminum make sure you try some aluminum polish on it. That stuff makes can make aluminum look like chrome, which im sure is a good thing when working with anodized paint. Even if its not aluminum, try some sort of polish, the worst it can do is nothing. (assuming you dont use a polish that says DO NOT use on that metal, in which case it can ruin the finish, but you can always polish it down again.)

Re: Painting my bottle :)

Im not polishing though. Im just sanding it down, priming it, painting the clear coating it.

I was under the impression that the paint provided its own mirror like finish? I didnt think the background behind it had to be an actual mettalic finish.

Im pretty sure that if i just sand it, prime it and paint it, that it will be shiney.

If you do like 3 coats, no it probably wont matter. Im just following exactly what that other guy did: sand, polish (wire wheel), polish compound, wash, paint, and finally clear

Re: Painting my bottle :)

I see what you mean, and i was talking to a friend about it. You are talking about it being kinda like a car paint job, in that whats underneath will show through.

Im pretty sure the paint will act as a concealer for the most part. Im gonna do 2 coats of primer and probably 3-4 coats of the anodized spray on paint, and top it off with 2 or 3 clear coats.

If it turns out bad, eh ill just do it over or paint it black again

Thanks for the suggestions and just another look at it. Let me know how the CAI comes out and what steps you took to do it. Id like pics as well.

Well the bottle is down to the metal, sanded with 1000 grit They say that the specialized primer will give you the same results. The way the bottle is now i could probably not use the primer and get good results but im gonna try it anyways.

It didnt take me that long to sand it down, so at worst i just have to do it over again. And i enjoyed working on it last night so i wouldnt mind.

Re: Painting my bottle :)

my paint can said that it is supposed to applied to properly prepared [shiny] metal.

I got the painting done tonight, it turned out pretty good. Looked kinda dark, but that could be different in broad daylight. Ill get the clearcoat on tomorrow and post the pics.

Re: Painting my bottle :)

i remember reading that it was idealy supposed to be done over chrome. My covers were very shiny before i anodized them. I took the 400grit paper and took the edge off them. It probably just wont turn out as "anodized" if you use primer, and more like a candy red.

By the way, for any of you who might be wondering the paint has help up very well.
