Painting Calipers in below freezing Temperatures

I have my Calipers all ready to be painted.. but I have no where warm to paint them. It's about -10 degrees C outside and the back of the can says do not apply below 21 degrees C.

What is the issue with the temperature? If it only increaseds the drying time then no problem. My car is stored for at least another 2 months.. I can let them dry for quite some time. But my concern is that it will affect the quality of the adhesion.

I also have the option to paint them outside.. then bring them in to dry inbetween coats. Would this make any difference?

Thanks! I'll get pics for you guys when I'm finished!

I'd get a space heater and do it in a warm garage.

The paint won't stick as well when it's really cold.

Make sure the caliper is room temprature before painting. Paint wont ahear to cold metal as well. After cleaning my calipers, i sat them infront of the space heater for a few minutes, painted em, then sat them infront of the heater again till I could pick them up.

One word, Hairdryer. I paint in this weather all the time. Heat the peice up with a hair dryer, spray a coat, dry it with hair dryer, spray, dry until its done. It will turn out fine. I have sprayed many parts like this.

i was using spray paint, which meant i had to do it outside. outside = no wall outlet, and the part was too big for that to work anyway

I'd just wait for warmer weather if you can, it's much easier.

Re: Painting Calipers in below freezing Temperatures

lol thanks guys but I already painted them.. I couldn't wait

I'm not really finished yet though... still have a few more coats to put on, and then clear coat after that. Right now it's just TOO cold.. I want it to at least be in the single digit negatives! lol!

But don't worry.. here is how I did it. I have a gas fireplace with a fan. So I turn that on and let it blast hot air on the calipers for 20 min or so to heat them up. I then took one outside, sprayed a quick light coat on, and ran back in and put it by the fire again. Then switched to the other caliper. I did this for about 4 light coats of paint, and then it got dark out.

So they aren't finished yet, but they are looking great! The paint seems to be holding really strong.

Do you guys want some pics? Just let me know.
