Painted LS1 Intake

I've seen this around on a few cars before and I was just wondering if anyone had steps on how to do this? What paint, etc. I am just tossing this Idea around. Anyone have pics of theirs as well? Thanks!

I opted not to do this because w/all the tight corners in between the runners it would be a PITA to keep clean.

How I would go about it though would be to lightly sand it. Clean it with Acetone then clean it some more with alcohol. Let it dry. Use an adhesion promotor for plastic, then a layer or 2 of high build primer, color and then clear. All of this can be found at a parts store in spray cans if you don't have a gun and compressor.

Thanks for the reply. I am still debating if I will do this or not, my intake is almost always clean so its not too bad a of matter of keeping it clean just depends if I'll have some time to do it.

Just as a warning. I found out the hard way with hammer coat that a clear coat wouldn't stick. Hammer is cool if you want the texture.

Get some pictures of that intake Irish. I'd like to see it.

Good as far as I know. It did look awsome. I did it as a pro bono job for a friend. I will be spending more time on mine smoothing, filling in the EGR delete, yadda yadda. I will be painting mine silver matching the valve covers previously done. (It is actually the rim color, but I had the paint lying around.....I wished I had matched body color, but it will still look great!).

If you can't spray, get it smoothe as hell and primed, and pay someone to spray it...

Thanks again, I have one last question what paint exactly did you use. I see that duplicolor has acrylic enamels but none quite match the grey I was looking for. I plan to also try and match my wheels

Get an LS6 intake if you're going to go through all that trouble.

I would.. but the minimal gain for my mostly stock motor plus the cost doesn't make sense right now. The car is fast enough for me now, I just want it to look a bit cleaner when I lift the hood.

It may be a minimum PEAK gain at the moment, but you get nice under the curve gains even when stock.
It is also a mod you can build on.

I was thinking about LS6 intake for mine too. Probably gain 10-15hp. Mine is fast enough with the blower till I build a stroker, and then I will go FAST 90.

Don't rattle can the paint if you are looking for show car stuff. You can not put enough material down right. Just prep and mask it. Take it to a shop, and they ought to be able to spray it for cheap. They will not warranty it as they did not do the prep, but who cares. I use rattle can primer, but I have a compressor, and spraying this small of stuff comes out perfect. The wheels I did look better than factory. I just don't have a booth for a whole car, so I do get some dust....
