I just bought some used Tan 95 Z28 leather seats for my Z and noticed they appear to be touched up with some type of spray paint or something. To look at the seats you cannot tell they have had anything done to them, however, there is a small amount of tan colored overspray on some of the hardware. Also there is a small worn area that has been painted or something. Anyways, my question is....has anyone heard of anything like this? I'm wondering if someone had them re-dyed and the dye is some type of spray or if a dealership may have done this. Also, some of the leather is pretty rough and dry from the sun, what can I put on this to soften if up? Thanks

Sometimes when leather is reconditioned/renewed, they spray it with something but it shouldnt be paint.

 

Yes, that is very common to see at dealerships. If there is wear on the seat then they'll have someone come in and "dye" it. What they actually do is spray the area with some type of paint. It doesn't feel like leather, kind of rough. I doesn't last real long either. You can even buy kits to paint leather in some magazines.
