Paint Recall...
Paint Recall...
I was looking at random vehicles on ebay..(something I do when I get bored). I noticed one SOM camaro, same year with paint bubbles. The owner had the TSB recall number on the site and I googled it. This is what I came up with...

GM is well aware of TSB 03-08-98-001A for Camaro's and Firebirds which pertains to the type of glue that was used in production to hold the roof panel on the vehicle. The glue is too agressive(worng glue)and works it's way around the roof panel and through the paint and makes bubbles in the paint on the roof. I have talked to many owners of Camaro's and Firebird's that have had the same issue and they state that GM picks and chooses which vehicles are eligible for a no cost repair regardless of ownership, mileage, etc. Since GM has admitted the problem Gm should repair all of the vehicles with this issue including my own at no cost instead of making excuses and giving loyal customers a run around.
My camaro has bubbles on the sail panel and around the top of the roof. The bubbles are so bad that they have "popped" and you can see grey. I noticed that the door trim(in the middle), the front fender and rear fender trim looks like bubbles and have discolored. Im the third owner and I wonder if its worth taking it down and seeing about getting it fixed.. Im kinda excited to have found the answer to mystery... Wondering if anyone has ensight.

Unfortunately it was a problem with alot of peoples cars. Some dealerships would replace it free (if you bugged them) a few years ago. Or you can go the route of replacing it yourself..
I haven't seen many threads over here about it but if you check ls1tech.com you will find a bunch of threads. I did a quick search but I didn't find the main one.. but hopefully that will help you out. It is replaceable if you are up for it though... it just sucks that it happened.
