New camaros rear destroyed

Just bought this 98 Z28 two weeks ago then spent $1000 getting it up to petfect shape. Wife is driving down a state route at rush hour at about 50 mph in slightly rainy conditions, she decides to change lanes, the rear end fish tails out of control the car spins around three times and hits the center wall. thank god shes not hurt but the car takes quite a bit of damage. check the pictures out follow the link in my sig page 2. I just can not understand what happened. why did the car loose control my wife drives like a granny, very slow and cautious. Oh well now to wait and see what the damage costs.

that really sucks. Sorry about the car, glad she's ok. As far as why, I'd say the reason is because our rears in the camaro's are posi's, meaning when you hit the gas and loose any traction, BOTH wheels will spin, not one. So if i ahd to guess I'd say she changed lanes and maybe gave it a bit to much gas as she was turning, and she went into a spin. So, basically, if it's a little wet outside and you give it to much gas and do not know how to correct, the rear will swing out on ya.

Ouch

Doesn't take much to lose control in one of these in wet conditions.

Glad she's ok man. I bet she took quite a scare there. Well the damage is there but it doesn't look too bad. Its not something that a good body shop can't fix. Hope everything turns out good for ya.

yeah these cars are fairly "untamed" for lack of a better word, they are hard to control in inclement conditions and easy to loose control of in good ones, all you can do is learn and move on, I'm glad to hear she's ok

Maybe you shoukd get tires with better grip for these type of situatuions. It shouldn't skid to much if you have some well planted all terrain tires to the ground. Glad she's ok.

Sucks to hear that man.
Good thing your wife is ok.

How come your 98 is wearing salad shooters?
Are those your winter wheels?

You really just gotta be carefull, I hate driving my car in the rain. It only takes 1 time to hydro plane and total a car. So wen I do have to drive in the rain I slow down.

2 words.. Ready for it??

"Women Driver"

Not all of them are bad (so don't take offence ladies), but 99% of what I've seen of women drivers scares me.. A car is for driving, not putting on makeup, not reading a book or paper, not a phone booth.. It's a car. Just enjoy the "privilege" of driving already.. : /

Now.. Granny driving doesnt = wreck.
Rain + heavy foot + inexpierenced fishtailer(driver) + more gas = wreck..

There must be something that she's not telling you.. Or maybe she is.. She must feel real bad about doing it.. Mine felt bad when she backed into my front clip and dinged up my paint.. (ouchie) I wasnt sore about it, but she was red to say the least..

EDIT : And it is great she's ok.. I'm sure she matters more than a car's bumper..

Thank you all for your concern. I don’t know if I agree with Vomit Gods views. I think a situation like this could happen to anyone and if you did not know how to counter steer or if you froze up in the moment and forgot to counter steer there is not much any one could do. The poor woman did quite a scare. She has had quite a lot of experience driving f-bodys as she has driven my other z28 the one in my sig for just about 4 years. She is ok and as long as the insurance company pays for all the repairs I will probably come out on top. The car had a few dent and dings which will now get fixed. And I will probably get new wheels out of the deal as the 2 wheels on the passenger’s side are shot. I will probably get some z06 wheels. The car came with the salad shooters and I kind of like it too, they always looked aggressive to me.

Sorry dude! I completely know how you feel. I had only had mine for 5 days, when I had my first accident. I was accelerating to get onto the autobahn, and hit a patch of black ice. I was immediately thrown into a spin, and as I was at the 180 degree position, I hit the back right 1/4 panel of a Mercedes with my front right 1/4. I recommend not driving in the rain or snow, but I know it is inevitable sometimes. You should definitely consider better tires...

Glad to hear your wife was ok. These cars are great in the sun but add a little something slippery ot the road and they cant stick for sh*t. I hit a puddle last year doing 55 on the higway going to class and ended up spinning off the road, ending up like this http://www.angelfire.com/extreme/toy...x_mywreck.html

I know have another Camaro (a Z this time) I do anything I can to aviod driving in the rain. And snow I just wont drive in.

Be thankful you wife is fine, the car can be fixed.

Ed
