Need help converting to HID's

I currently own a 97 Pontiac Trans Am. I converted from the sealed beam headlamps to free-form 165mm housings with H4 lamps. I am happy with the new housings and more powerful lamps but wish to go to an HID setup.

I've seen many kits with the high/low beam function performed by either a movable sheild or the lamp moving itself. I'm not the most confident in these kits but maybe someone can tell me different. Also, I want to do this the best way possible and try to do it only once, so I dont want to skimp on a garbage kit. Since these headlamps pop up, I have minimal clearance on the backside when in the down position so this may limit my options. Lastly, if my only solid option is to purchase a conversion kit without the capability of a high beam then so be it. Pics are below of the cars current configuration. thanks for any assistance.

The headlights were not aligned in the last pic, but I certainly do not want to blind anybody. Do the beam patterns look suitable for an HID lamp? I probably should have turned the foglights off for that pic since it may be throwing off the perception.

I cannot help you with your HID conversion but I do have some questions about your current setup.

Where did you get them? Since you are wanting to go to HID's would you recommend them to someone else? Are they high quality? Were they very easy to install as they appear to be or was there a lot of modification required?

Those are about all of the questions that I can think of right now, but any other suggestions/adbvice is greatly appreciated.

Re: Need help converting to HID's

I purchased these from rallylights.com including the hella housings and hella premium lamps. The quality of these is top notch in my opinion. They do a much better job lighting up the road, but I'm still trying to see if I can pull this HID thing off with my current setup. Installation was very straight forward but I recommend extending the adapters with some wire to make it all fit a little better. What I mean by this is that the adapter plugs into the stock plug for the headlights and its kind of short. This is an issue because you need to get the adapter out of the way in order for the headlights to close all the way, but if you manage to work them into a suitable spot, then when the headlights pop up, it gets pulled back out again. You will see what I mean when and if you do it. So honestly the only thing you really have to do is plug and play.

I'm gonna be trying to figure out this HID deal soon so I will keep everyone posted. I want to do it the right way and not blind people, so hopefully these housing will give me a reasonable cutoff. From what I have seen, projectors seem the way to go, but obviously that would require some fabrication to make it all work. I'll keep things posted.
