my door shell is coming apart from door! Help

well ever since I got my car back from the accident I have noticed that the outer shell of my door(on both doors) is loose... So when I pull the outside handle the door shell pulls off a little... Also I can hear some air coming through the window when Im driving so its appearantly not holding the window firmly against the weatherstrip... has anyone had this problem before? Help

From what I've read, its pretty common, although its never happened to me.

Call you're dealer, they have some sort of adhesive.

My friend has the same problem on his passenger door. I think he had it glued or welded and a shop. It lasted a while but now its coming apart again. Check with dealer.

My '94 z28 developed the same problem after a trip to the body shop. I took it back and they resealed it. Takes about 4 hours for the bonding to take. This was done about 2 months ago and haven't had problem 1. Try a body shop; should be an easy fix. Good Luck

I dont want to have to take it to a body shop if I dont have to... is there any way that I can just do it myself? has anyone done it themselves and successfully fixed it?

Well they have all kinds of epoxys at autozone, but what was the process you went through? What tools did you need, how long did it take you and such. I want to try and do both my door tomorrow. Thanks!

well you can go about it two ways.

1. Since the door is fiberglass, the only right way to do it is take the shell off and have it molded back onto the door itself (normally a body shop can handle that).

2. Put some epoxy on it and "hope" it holds. Personally I used some weather stripping that I heard was "the strongest shii ever". 2 weeks later, my door shell is loose again and the shii is all over my door.

I'm probably going to ignore it and wait a few months until I get my lamborgini door kit. You are going to have to take the shell off the door anyway to reinforce the door. I see no need in fixing it now, taking it apart later and fixing it again. But personally I'd get a quote from the body shops in your town.

Yeah, mine developed that same problem back in April '02. I just got some quick-dry J.B. Weld and put it in there and it fixed it just fine. (With some quick touch up paint to hide the grey J.B. Weld.) It did break loose again though, my girl had my car for a week and once she had too much stuff in her hands and she pulled my door handle REALLY hard (thought it was unlocked). I just broke off the dried J.B. Weld and redid it. The first time lasted from April '02 to Jan ' 03
