Mobile One oil cap
Mobile One oil cap
Hey all I got this part number (12555685) from this site. Its for my 1997 Trans Am, but it doesn't fit. The cap on my car has threads, the one I bought is more of a half twist and lock type thing.
What is the right part number??? Please???
Thanks guys

Re: Mobile One oil cap
You probably got the cap for the LS1s. The same thing happened to me, I bought a Mobil One cap off of ebay that was advertised as working with the LTx motors and it turned out otherwise. Also, the Delco box had the part number scratched off so I think the seller knew what they were doing. Dishonest crooks.
Any way to make it work if you have aftermarket valve covers? Here the link: http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...10002_22511_-1

I plan on getting one of those once I get some snazzy covers.

Don't worry. You can still make it work. Although it is a little difficult.
If you take your stock cap to a work bench. You can actually remove the threaded plastic part. Then take the Mobile One cap and stick it inside the the threaded portion.
Sorry, it is somewhat difficult to describe with words. You could even use some high temp resistant glue to glue the new cap into the old bottom.
Does that make any sense?
My 95 Z and 94 Roadmaster have this done to them and it does work.

I'm starting to think they don't make a Mobil 1 cap for our cars, but you can get some decent looking ones on Ebay.
I got a plain black one from pep boys that was like 3 bucks and it was perfect. I am not sure if it specified for LT1 or just SBC. It threaded it perfectly. It has round cutouts along its perimeter ( for finger grip) so that you can twist it off and is pretty flat.
Pretty sure you have to get the one from the LT4 Corvettes. Problem was when I purchased the one off of Ebay, it clearly was an LSx cap and the seller actually cut the part number off of the Delco box which raised even more suspicion. Yet it was clearly sold to me as a LT1 f-body Mobil 1 oil cap.
The issue is the looks of the Mobile 1 cap.. not only does it look better, but if you have people do your oil changes, it'll atleast give them a second thought as they rip you off by putting in regular oil and put your Mobile 1 you brought them in the back of their car. And charge you full price. ******.
