LT1 Camaro sealed beam HID conversion (Moved from other thread)

you should try a sealed beam HID conversion. basically all you do is replace the lenses with a new one which was included in my kit and put a HID bulb and ballast in and your done. the outpoint is much better and mine was all plug and play. level it up and enjoy. this was a great improvement for me and still retains the stock look with the lights off. i got it from ledgauges.com about a year ago and its worked without a hitch. just some food for thought.

must say i was quite happy with how bill's pics were, retains 100% stock look as they are stock lights, and well being hid's you get at least 1000% better light output

I was impressed with his pics too. Seems like the only upgrade I'd be willing to do, but that's because I'm a fan of the stock look.

I was checking out the web site and it looks like they now offer a kit for both low and high beam lights.

What HID did you go with?

I like the look of my CTS-V HIDs and they are 4200k I beleive...looks like you went with something whiter

the high and low beams are the same, i never use my high beams anymore so it wasnt worth it to upgrade them. they are 4300k, i believe all factory setups are lower than 4200 (something like 2800-3400 but i dont remember) which gives them more of a white/ yellow look were mine has more of a white with a touch of blue. the lower the number usually the more white is in it. id recommend going with the lows first then see what you think from there, both high and lows HID's would be blinding as even the factorys use halogens for Hi beams. any more questions ask

yeah have you had any problems with the factory wires? My buddy just fried his on a 35w ballast and now he is shooting wires to find the burnt spot... makes me scared to do this.

Lower than 4300-4500k will start to turn yellow. 4500k is typically closest to white that you can get.

Wire in relays to protect your wiring- its not that hard.

Factory high beams typically use halogens on high beams for cost and since HID's use some start-up time- not what you want on high-beams.

35w HID's will be more than sufficient, but will still have considerable glare in a stock housing, 55w should not even be considered in low beams. HID's should be used in a proper housing, i.e.- projector. If everyone keeps putting HID's in their factory housings it won't be long until police start giving tickets. Almost every state has a catch-all law for modifying factory lighting.
