LS1 to LT1 Front End Conversion - You read it right

Some of you may have seen this at other forums, but I thought I would post it here too.

When I bought my '93 I was VERY happy that it already had the LS1 front end on it - but then I saw the LT1 SS hood and I had to have it. This is a current project, so I will update this thread as it makes progress.

Note - Every LS1 front end conversion thread I've seen says you must use LS1 fender brackets - when I took my LS1 front off, it still had LT1 fender brackets. Maybe that will be useful to someone.

How so? If anything, it should feel natural now.

The only thing I still need is the bumper core. Thank you though.

Same here, I think the 93-97 front looks better. I would think if I had an LS1 car I would want to convert to the LT1 front end. I bet the main reason most people wanted the 98 up front end was just to make their car look newer, but now that both body styles are old its not as important lol.

I'm glad you're doing this.

I can't wait to see somebody someday take a '98-'02 Z28 or SS and do a '93-'97 front end conversion on it. You'd get the best looking 4th gen look, plus the best 4th gen drivetrain. If you wanted to get really technical (as I'd want to haha), and wanted to keep everything technically GM stock, you'd need '93-'96 leather seats. The leather was much higher quality and thicker than the leather used '97+.

Would this really work? Just asking because I thought part of the reason for redesigning the front end was to accomadate the LS1, which, if I remember correctly, is taller than the LT1....

Never thought about it like that, but good point.

Plenty of people put LS1's in their 93-97's. You may need to use a different hood because of the air intake but other than that, the fronts are pretty much the same except for design.

It works, it's just not completely pretty. You can fit the LT1 stock hood, or '96-'97 SS hood by putting one of those cone air filters directly on the throttlebody or by using the Callaway Honker or Moroso air intake (they are the same thing). The thing that is in the way the most is definitely the air filter box.

I like the front ends of LT1's better too. I used to have a Z28 with SS hood...It was purty!!

I love my LS1 .... but I hat the "catfish" effect. However, the LT1 front end does have it's drawbacks:

-Fog lamp bulbs are a PITA to change
-Changing out bulbs in your front turn signal lense....is a PITA
-Cant change out a bulb if a headlight goes out...need to do the whole housing
-Clear corner lense are harder to install or change out...if you were going to do that
-No headlight options...like halos, whistler mod...etc. unless you do that ugly PIAA conversion thing.... yuck
-No bulb options like HIDs ! unless you get the already made ones which cost waaaay to much

But I agree the 96-97 style SS hoods look 100% better. I think there is or was a company that made LS1 SS hoods to look like the LT1 SS, but I'm not sure. Good luck

Unless I'm wrong, I think some company recently came out with halo headlights that directly plug in.
