Lights in heater vents

When I come back from school for thanksgiving vacation i'm planning on putting lights in my heater vents. I have a red '97 Camaro Convertible. Has anyone done this before and what is the best kind of lights to get, I was thinking the hyper leds from Varad and how many lights to I install in each heater vent? Also, I was planning on putting in red lights to match the car, anyone have suggestions on colors they think would look good?

Thanks,
Mark

I'm still thinking to do that and my pal is to use the little 3" neon tubs. i was thinking to do it with leds (2 for each vent on the sides) but then i thought that the light will come through very $hitty because of all the plastic pieses inside.
In your case red will probably be the best choise.

I thought it would be a fun project and it would look cool in the car. Its pretty inexpensive compared to all the other stuff I want to do and i've never seen anyone else around me do this.

I have green LEDs in the two vents on the top vents of the drivers section, one in each. You can see one of the lights here. I also replaced the light in the shifter panel with a green LED so now the drive letters light up green (sorry, no pic of that). This is the type of LED that I used, they are definitely very bright.

I'm going to be redoing the whole thing this winter. The plan now is to put 2 LEDs in all the vents, crossing beams so that they light up more of the vent area and don't shoot out as much. These LEDs are great to work with because you can affix the little resistor box to whatever and the wires to the bulb are bendable so you can have any angle you want.

Currently I just have them spliced into the headlight wiring so they come on when the lights do. This winter I'm planning on having all this stuff on its own wiring system with switches so that it'll be more customizable and prolly have better connections than just splicing into current wiring.

If you have any questions, email me.

radioshack sells LED's for about a buck for a pack of 20. you cant wire them backwards, they are very cheap and all you need to do is get the 12 volt leds. they have all different colors including red, blue, yellow, orange, green, purple, and i think black

Do you happen to know if they emit a lot of light (something that would light up a vent, or does just the bulb glow? Also, how reliable are they? Doesn't seem like they would last long at 20 for a buck.

first off, diodes almost never go bad. second, that depends on how much current you have going through them and if you limit the current with fuses. they probably arent near as bright as the "super-bright leds" you see for $20 a pair on ebay, but for my taste, those are way too bright.
