Re: LEDs

Just mix some blue LEDs with super-white ones. It will have an obvious blue tint, but wont be too harsh.

Re: LEDs

Youll be wanting to use pure white LED's then . The stock gauge face already has a light blue silkscreen on the back so it will come out light blue . The blue silkscreen is so the stock yellowish 194 bulbs filter thru as white .

Re: LEDs

If you get all white leds they will come out light blue not really dark like the jetta's.

Re: LEDs

Why did GM use yellow bulbs?

Also I wanted to get Red LED's but if I got white faced gauges would the tint throw off my red?

How do you install resistors and what kind would I need for 194's and 73's?

Any incandesenct bulb has a yellowish or off white cast , meaning its not pure white . The blue tinting on the stock guage face is not enuff to throw off red bulbs . Make sure u use high intensity xenon red bulbs from MacEwen motorsports and the red with show just fine . A normal 194 with red glass would be very dim , just because of the the light filters thru red glass .

Haha , nope ....blue led's are off quite abit from the actual VW color . The exact color of VW guages is ultraviolet . That color LED just recently came out and I do believe VW held a patent on it for awhile . I havent seen that color led at many places , but if u ever see a company that lists an ultraviolet led , thats the color .

I personally think you would get exactly what your after using a high intensity xenon blue that macewen sells . Its not actually blue when lit , its like pure white with a really faint light blue cast . Its ALOT brighter than stock bulbs and the guages filter a very light bluish white . Red needles remain red , just alot brighter . FWIW , I have tried the 4 led 194 bulbs and they do not light up evenly , there are brighter and duller areas on the guage face .

hope that helps .

Re: LEDs

Oznium.com sells "UV - Blacklight" LEDs, but they're just LEDs not a 194 wedge.

I've always gone with Oznium.com with all my LED needs, good service and they'll throw in the resistors that you need for the LEDs to work in a car.
