led turn signal pics

this is a updated post to my other post about the custom turnsignals i made for my body kit. I also plan on doing the 3ed brake light in leds and the side marker lights in leds. i have a few more things im planning also like the tail lights, delete the dome light and replace with some white leds and leds in various places in the engine bay.

this is a prototype 10 led setup i made. the finished product will be 12 leds spaced 1" apart and will implement a heavy duty flasher. and the brake lights will be totaly new and replace the stock bulb holders with a board of 15-20 leds in each peice of the tail light. the licesence plate lights will be replaced with 10 leds and the side markers will be shaved and replaced with 2 rows of 5 leds spaced 1" apart that fit flush with the body panel.

heres a link to the other post with pics http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=422343

Re: led turn signal pics

why would it be illegal? it works off of the stock system and is no diffrent from the leds that are in peoples side mirriors. i asked 3 cops about this before i did it and they said that its legal aslong as its visiable from the front and the side of the car and can be seen for upto a 1/4 mile away and you can see these things for over half a mile.

Re: led turn signal pics

cool idea, are they red or amber? if you have red or blue that is considered illegal since those colors are reserved for emergency vehicles only

Re: led turn signal pics

I was under the impression that anything other than a DOT approved housing for a turn signal marker was illegal.

As well as anything other than a DOT approved housing for anything other any lighting piece on your vehicle was...

It is very different though, and streamlined.

You have quite an extensive modlist there too!

Because it's a lot more complicated then asking a couple of cops. Everything, and I do mean Everything on your car has to be certified by one or more state and federal agencies. All lighting has to be approved and have an SAE number which shows that it meets the requirements for that light on that vehicle for that year. Go to the (National Hiway Traffic Safety Administration WEB site) NHTSA.gov and look at any of the regulations. It's a real eye opener. And this is just one org. There are others like the EPA, and then you have state orgs. like CARB and all of the state DOT's.
Does this mean you will be stopped and ticketed because you've modded your car. If done well probably not, but you CAN be.

Re: led turn signal pics

well this car is turning out to be a strip/show car more and more every day. once the new paint job is on it i will have almost 14k in it and the interrior isnt even started yet. all i have in it is the race seats and the new carpet. im gonna start fiberglassing the new interrior panels and the box with 2 15's and 2 12's then i can start glassing the door panels and i also have to paint the roll cage the same color as the car and thats gonna be a pain in the ***. im also gonna glass a spare dash i have and replace my stocker. i have started fabbing up the brushed aluminum console and my prostick magnum should be here in a few more days. im also thinking about fiberglassing my nitrous bottel into the amp rack im going to build. and dont worry pics will be posted when i am finished with the extirror.

Re: led turn signal pics

thats the kit i bought but i got it from creativeautoonline.com. but i think i posted a link to a ebay auction like that one to show pics of the kit.

the car was finished bodywise untill a few weeks ago when a kid in my neighborhood ran his atv into my drivers door and busted the door. i am once again preping the car for paint since the last job had too much pearl in it to match it back up. but once this job is on it it will be close to the last color and will also have some ghoast flames.

the kit is fully molded in and has over 30 hours of work and block sanding to ensure no waves. The hood has about 20 hours worth of work to it to just get it straight. if i had to do it all over again i wouldnt order a kit that hasnt been out on the market for a while. the car looks amasing and was well worth what i have spent on it. Im shopping around for lambo hinges now and the cheapest i have found is 800. i might order them in the next month or so.

Re: led turn signal pics

I'd love to see more pics of the car !
I'm considering that front clip, would you say it shortens the front end at all ?
Was the new clip much heavier than the stock one ?
