Exactly.

They would look incredible...but we haven't seen them yet because they will cost a lot of money. I have heard quotes of up to like 7000. Doors on a Camaro are very heavy...that's why there is a big problem with most of our doors sagging a little. In order to do doors such as this you would need custom hinges and one hell of a system to get those puppies up easy.

I'd love to see it...and if you got the $$$ go for it.

anyone who pays more than 250 for the hinges is getting ripped off horribly. the only hard part is finding the right hinges, and balancing the door...even mounting the piston and hinges isn't that difficult. and im sure that most of you know someone who used to work in a shop that can help you out, maybe even do this for you for lunch. any way, 600 at most for final cost not including paint.

Crack-that's what you're on if you think you can do this for less than a couple of grand. I spent 4500 for suicide doors, and it looks factory-remember you get what you pay for. Camaro doors are extremely heavy, mine have internal adjustments that are made every few months even with the doors being closed most of the time.

A local guy installed a set on his Celica. He just looked around for the proper hinge.

$350 including the paint.

They aren't motorized but look awesome.

Like it was said above, you just need the right hinge.

Motorizing them is where the $$$$ comes in.

You would almost HAVE to motorize f-body doors...unless of course you don't mind lifting a heavy **** door up over your head like that every time you want to get in or get out of your car. Man, oh man...that would suck. They're just so darn heavy!

they make piston shocks for lifting the doors just like the hood, and there are complete kits for under 700 bucks. like i said, if you pay more than a grand, you got ripped.

As already been stated by CamaroCasanova, you will not get it done for a couple grand. There is a reason the company in California that did the doors on this mustang cobra charged $10K. Look at the animation, the door has to physically come out to minimize the hassle of doing a complete custom front fender as well. The same will have to be done with the Camaro.

Those import kits are much easier in part because of the door lay out of those cars. Even those "hinge only" kits for them vary from couple hundred to a couple thousand.

Body work, and custom body work are not cheap, especially when you want it done right. Ask a body shop how much it will cost to just replace your factory door for you, see if you can get it less than $700 and have it operate like it supposed to. I doubt it.

No...if done right...it would look really really nice on our cars. It's just the fact that something like this is expensive to do right. That's all. It's something that's been said before...and I'm sure it'll get said again.

when i do it, ill tell you how much it costed me to get done, as well as get pictures of during\after.

as for that mustang, its motorized. the doors lift straight up. the hinges im getting dont go straight up, they twist the door out slightly and allows for clearance.

Just like the Hamman BMW M5 (?) pictures that are floating around the internet. I am willing to bet that will still cost near $7K when you are done. Although not motorized, you will still have to overcome the weight and customizing the door to accomodate struts that will withstand repeated loads of opening and closing those doors. Not to mention making custom latches.

The doors on that Mustang still retain their factory ability to open like a stock Cobra without the aid of the hydraulics that are used to do as the video shows. The lowest quote I have gotten was about $5K only as an approximation for non-motorized doors. That was a very conservative ball park by someone who has done this type of job before on various other cars.
