well I finally got a crack right below the window on my drivers door about a 1/4 inch long-What the hell causes this to happen? Is there any way to stop it in its track? I thought about gluing it closed from the underside of the panel with some epoxy or something, anybody have any suggestions.

 

My dashpad cracked and i used a 2 part epoxy that i got at the local walmart called "Plastic Welder". The stuff is strong i used it on my dash pad on the crack and it held for a while but soon the crack started moving farther down the panel. So i pulled the panel and put some more plastic welder on it and i cut a coat hanger up and layed the pieces perpendicular across the crack and glued them in place. Any time the panel cracked after my initial bond it always broke the plastic next to the bond never the bond. This means the bond is stronger than the plastic.

 

If you could show a pic of where the crack is, that would probably help us.

 

Its "The Crack" the one that almost every later TA door panel gets.

 

thanks for the tip, that sounds like a good plan, I want to stop this thing early before it gets to ugly. Yes it is cracked in the common area. I 've seen pictures of cracks before and it is exactly whee mine is, about 2-3 inches inward from the window towards the back of the door and it starts right underneath the plastic/rubber ledge and goes straight down.

 

I think it must really only be LS1TA's my door panels were out of a very ragged on 93TA and they're just fine. Mine are now installed in a Camaro and only have 3 bolts holding them in place instead of 4 and mine still haven't broken.knock on wood.

I have a small one in that spot too. Dont even know where it came from. My door panels are out of a 99 TA so that would explain it...

 

To stop a crack or split in plastic or metal you need to drill a small hole at the end of the crack. It won't fix it but it will stop if from growing.
