Interior Color Conversion

Might not be the right place for this thread, but I have a question. Does anyone know the best way to convert the interior of a 2001 Camaro from tan to black? Is it possible to paint the panels?

There are interior specialty paints available, but a friend of mine had a bad run in with them. The paint scratches off pretty easy and because it is a dramatic color change (tan to black) when it scratches, the tan will get your focus... all gaudy like. Perhaps if were charcole grey to black it wouldnt show as bad...
Bottom line: IMO you should just buy the used interior pieces that you want used from somewhere... new from factory way too XXXpensive dash is 947 dollars.

I guess I would also need the whole carpeting, headliner, door panels, and seat covers too. Probably a 1,000 bucks all together.

I bought a special "adhesion promoter" spray and then bought some vinyl STAIN spray, what guaranteed it wouldn't chip, crack, or peel. Haven't had problems, and I even tried scratching it to see how it held up. Of course, I didn't make a huge change. I bought an Ebony interior (door panels & back) from a wrecked '00 SS a while back, and I stained my Graphite-colored OE dash to Jet Black...

I think your best bet would be to find a camaro in the scrap yard and get all the interior from it, or find someone parting out their car. Ive never heard of any vynl paint that wont scratch or wear off.

There's your mistake. There's a difference between a vinyl PAINT and a vinyl STAIN...

i used to work at a detail shop, and paint is more of a quick fix, with powerful chemicals it will rub off. i know nothing about the stains though. so i would look into those if you are really that interested. but i like tan personally...

What are you doing using powerful chemicals to clean off your interior pieces??? I mean, the same result can be had with gentler cleaners...

thats not what i was taught, but maybe that is true. i just worked there a summer and did what i was told. but there are sometimes black scuffs that wont come out with normal interior cleaner, so sometimes i had to use heavy duty cleaner. but as i said, i just did what i was told, and i was told to be careful what i used the hd cleaner on and when to use it and everything.

Well, I'm sure they make something strong enough to clean, but gentle enough to do no damage. I mean, look at tinted windows. You can't use any ammonia-based cleaners, or you'll mess up the tint. There are ammonia-free window cleaners that are safe for tinted windows. No, they're not as strong as ammonia-based cleaners, but they still get the job done...

I was going to do the same thing with my old Graphite grey LT1 to Ebony. I started searching Ebay and here for everything. Just buy the entire door panels, usually goes for less than $150 for the set. I got the Rear speaker panels in the hatch for $75 (the set). The side panels next to the rear seats were about $125 for the set. Seat covers for the front and back simulated leather was $300

The carpeting that goes all over the floor and the rear, is either on ebay or Jegs, I think. They make them car specific for like $200-$300. Then theres the kick panels by the floor and the door, and I don't know about the dash I did not get to that point. I then sold the car a few months after.
