Here they are, $35 shipped off ebay. You cant really tell the difference in these pics but the light changes from blue to green with a switch. Does anyone know if I can cut out the piece that goes around the warning lights in the upper left hand corner without screwing the lights up?

Green:

Blue:

I'll take pics after they are installed as well

I like these ones. If I do it it will be with one that glows like this.

I will be keeping an eye on this thread to see how difficult the install is. I'm not to sure if I want to remove needles or not.

You dont have to remove the needles

I have done this before on an old GMC Sonoma. I took the needles off when I did that one (used a fork) and just took a pic before I did it so I knew where to put them back. Its really that simple

Seriously, those gauges suck. I have a set in my blue car and I wish I had never done it. They might not be from the same people, but they're junk.

How so? I know the ones I had in my truck worked fine and I got them from ebay Here is a link to the website of the company that makes them.

The ones I got will cut off at random, so I can't tell how fast I'm going. Also, I absolutely hate the little windows over where the dummy lights are. It looks so cheap.

Did you wire them to the switch? If so thats not always a 12V supply, and probably burned out the inverter. Buy a new inverter and I bet they work like new again.

I sent them an email asking about cutting out the part by the dummy lights, theoretically they should still work with that part missing since its not connected to the rest of the gauges.

sweet...yeah you have to get rid of the little boxes for the warning lights in the upper corner. That has been the only reason I haven't gotten a set of new gauges for my car.
Seriously figure out how to do this, then come by one night and we'll put some blue light bulbs in the dash of mine! It's going to be a summer of working on camaros I have a feeling.

Here is the response I got from the email I sent to the tech support of the company:
Like any circuit it needs to make a complete loop for it to work. If the loop is broken, it will not work. on a bulb for instance, one side it positive and the other negative where they meet in the middle is the filament. if that filament is broken you have no more light. Our gauges are a little different but same idea, the neg on ous would be a back copper layer screened on, the pos would be the layer you see that links one section to the next, as long as you do not break the section that connects these 2 from connecting, you should be fine, but be aware not to touch the edge of the gauges as the electricity will be exposed and you could shock yourself. For warrantee, safety and insurance reasons we can not tell you to or explain where or how to cut the section you are asking about, all we can say is how it works, you may want to read up on EL on the internet to understand it better. I personally have cut one in half and it still worked on the side connected to power. That’s as much as I can tell you. I hope it helps. good luck, and be carful the inverter puts out about 125 volts of AC current, like a house!
Aparently its going to take some effort to get that section removed without messing up the rest of the circuit. One idea I had was to keep it connected and just paint over that area with some black paint.

I think I am just going to cut that section out and see what happens. If it doesnt work I'll just buy another set and start over. If it does in fact break the circuit, I suppost some magnet wire soldered in place could fix it.

According to this website: http://www.beingseen.com/sheets.html
This is the back of the EL sheet. It can be cut in any shape providing a portion of the of the Bus (thick, double line running around the edge) is kept. The bus is required to distribute power to the EL sheet.
So as long as the "bus" is connected to everything else, removing a section from the gauges should not alter the rest of the glowing part. I am going to cut it out when I get home and see what happens. It would, however, need to be relaminated, which I am hoping I can put some electrical tape around the trimmed edges.

Yes, mine's wired to the headlight switch. I think I'm just going to remove my overlays entirely when I start taking the car apart again.

I can't remember but did you have to do something to cap off the end where you cut?

Lets put em in

Nope. I am going to put a piece of electrical tape over that exposed glowing part though just to be careful.
