if Brangeta owned a '96 SS...
This really surprised me. This is similar to what I would do to a '96 SS if I owned one. It's repainted purple (not sure if the color is dull, or if the camera just sucks) and has black stripes. I wouldn't have put the F-1 ground effects on it, but the car looks really good. Of course, if it was mine, I would have left the proper SS wheels on it... I don't like the IROC inspired aftermarket ones on it. It's a real SS though... and was originally arctic white. I've emailed them requesting a picture of the engine bay to see if it was repainted purple.

It's a shame the most interesting cars always have the crappiest pictures. I think it has something to do with older people owning the coolest cars and also the most outdated cameras.
Although it's not terribly interesting, it's worth noting that this car lacks the leather wrapped steering wheel OR it's in such phenomenal condition that it just appears to be lacking it. I don't see stitching, so it looks to me like the leather is missing off of it for some reason or the steering wheel has been replaced with one from a donor car.
Now why would you need to replace a steering wheel?
And why would you completely repaint a low mileage SS? Anybody catching on to what I'm thinking...?

Sorry to pee in the punchbowl Brangeta, but I see stitching at the 4-5 o'clock positions, as well as on the shifter. The pics suck, but I can see it. Plus the wheel looks too fat, and is a different color than the center. Speaking of color, I wonder what shade of purple that is. It doesn't look like the OEM purple from 97, and actually looks blue in some of the pics. Ditch the stripes, body kit, and IROC wheels, and I'd be all for it. Oh, and put the 2OTL exhaust back on. <EDIT> It actually looks like Mopar Plum Crazy Purple.
I agree, TD95Z, I think it looks like Plum Crazy to me, but since their camera sucks, it's hard to tell. Plum crazy is typically lighter purple than that.
The color reminds me of the 1989 Chevy XT-2 Concept Truck.

Don't know about the stitching. To me it looks like one of the "soft leatherlike" steering wheels. I forgot the RPO code for that...
The point I was trying to make is I wondered if the car had been wrecked and restored. Overall, it looks like they did a damn good job of doing it if the car has been wrecked.
If the town it was in wasn't such a long drive, I'd go see it just to take pictures of it and leave some drool on it.

Did the ad say how many miles are on it? I can't find any obvious signs of a wreck in the pics, but considering they look like they were taken with a 2004-vintage cell phone, that doesn't mean much. I agree that this thing likely has damage in its past. I hope to see that engine bay shot, because the lack of one in the ad seems fishy. BTW, the side shot reminds me of a Hot Wheels car, because those IROC knockoffs look like the generic rims on every Hot Wheels I owned as a kid.
In 1996, it was possible to order a Z28 SS without the leather steering wheel cover. By doing so, you also would not get the leather covered parking brake handle and shifter **** as well.
The non-leather versions of the parking brake handle and automatic shifter **** have "molded stitching", whereas the vinyl steering wheel and manual shifter **** did not.

If you are referring to the steering wheel, it appears to me that there is no leather present.

I'd have to really hunt in my files for a pic of the non-leather covered parts. That purple one was optioned with leather covered wheel and ****, but it looks to me like only the **** is covered.
If I remember correctly, the **** is the same as the one out of a Cavalier, and they tended to not have leather covering on them. But... it'd probably be hard to find a good pic of a Cavalier's shifter these days... but maybe not as hard as finding a non-leather covered one in a Camaro...

I have never seen this molded stitching. Was this part of some specific package? I had a 96 Z without the leather wheel, and it had a plain auto shifter **** and parking brake handle. The car was bone stock with 60k. It had cloth seats and crank windows, if that makes any difference. I'm gonna go look at my 96 dealer brochure and see if I can find the molded stiching anywhere, cuz now you have me curious.
