Question how to tell: "30th anniversary"

I have a 1997 Camaro SS. On my seats it has "30th" and I was wondering if that means it is one of the 30th anniversary editions or not. I know 100 or so that year had the LT4 engine which mine does not, but how do you tell if the other ones are or not?

Also, what was special about the "30th Anniversary" editions anyway?

Thanks!

The ONLY 30th anniversary camaros were white in color with big double orange center stripes running down the middle of the vehicle and white leather seats. If you don't have that, you don't have a 30th anniversary camaro. All the 97's say 30th on the headrests. Mine does in my leather, but it's not a special 30th anniversary edition.

My buddies 30th Anniversary Z28 and my car.

His has the 16x8 chrome wheels and cloth interior option. There's a nice little turbo lurking under the hood of it now too.

Very nice cars! I like the ground effects and exhaust on yours. Is that spoiler stock? Don't remember them looking like that, but it looks good!

I noticed the Z28 badge on the rear of your friends car is on the left side. Is that unique to the 30th anniversary? Bet its fast. Does it have the LT4 then? I don't remember if that was only an option for the SS or also Z28 that year.

Thanks guys. Those are actually my old tips (RK Sport) but I have the Loud Mouth on my Z now so those tips that are on my car in those pictures are now on his Z. He has the LT1 engine but fabricated his own custom turbo setup on it. Yes it's very fast. The car is very capable of low 11s if not high 10s in the 1/4 with his nearly 130 mph trap speed.

And his badge on the other side must have been done by the previous owner. He bought it like that.

This has been confusing people since 1997. But it's really pretty simple.

Camaro's were introduced in 1967, so obviously 1997 was the 30th anniversary. That makes all of them 30th Anniversary cars. And they all have the 30th badge imbossed on the seat back.

However within this larger group were a batch of "special" white and orange 30th Anniversaty SS's. And within this group were an even more special batch of 100 produced with the LT4 engine.

Each progressive smaller group is considered more desirable and therefore worth more.

Now, this is where the confusion starts. Within the "Camaro community" it is considered improper for you to advertise your car as a "30th Anniversary" unless it's one of the "special" white and orange SS's.

Hope this helps.

Z28SORR,

Thank you! That is exactly what I was looking for and it made perfect sense.

So from what I've read there were 957 or so special "30th Anniversary" editions that are white with orange stripes. Then within that 957 100 of them had the LT4 engine.

Thanks for the clarification. Now I know my car is a 30th, but not really a 30th haha...

Not just with SSs but with Z28s too as noted by the pics I posted above.

Oh yes, the spolier came with the car as a factory option called the Sport Appearance Package (Y3F) from Chevrolet. More commonly found on the V6 cars and the Rally Sport (RS) packages but some of the Z28s came with the package as well.
