How much have you paid for a paint job?

I know this has been brought up numerous times, but I want to make sure nothing has changed How much have you guys paid for paint jobs and what have you thought of it. I have been planning on spending avout $1100 and finding a guy that does it out of his garage, but now I figure I should go with a paint job that will last and look better.

And what types of places do you think do a better job? Like, should I take it to a collision repair place, or find a custom shop or something?

Although I didn't pay this much for my paint job, mine would have been nearly 4K. I bartered with the guy and did some computer work for him and his wife for the last couple years, so he did it for half that. Pics in the sig.

commin from someone who works in a bodyshop, i can personally tell you, you get what you pay for, a good paint job required good prep work dont forget so labor will be high too, you would be amazed that maaco paint jobs are actually not that bad though, as long as you do the prep work yourself. for our sized car look in the $3500-4500 range depending on colors used, brand of materials, location etc

That's $3500 and up for a REALLY NICE paint job. If it was something like a daily driver type car that you didn't want to put THAT kind of money into...you could get away with $2k I would think. Obviously...the cheaper you go though...the less quality we're talking about.

go to earl shacb or earl shab or however you spell it. they have paint there for like 600 bucks and you get a six year warranty against any defects. you can beat it.

I called up local paint shops and found the cheapest labor. Did all the body and prep work. Took it down, $714 w/ clear - most of it was for paint. Been 5 years, clear coat is still in great condition. They baked it so it was extremely hard to remove my old tint (near impossible) found a place that would do it for cheap $115 removal and new tint, and they spent almost 7 hours on it (they were new and didn't have a lot of business.) Anyway, there are deals out there! Just gotta look around.

you don't actually SAVE money getting it painted the same color...it just costs a lot more to CHANGE a color...that is...if you do it right and paint under the hood, engine bay, door jambs, trunk...all that jazz. It's been said before and I'll say it again...you can easily get a car painted for 500 bucks if you look around...but if it's the OEM quality or better....it'll be 2K and up.

having a convertible doesn't really get you any discount. It doesn't work like that. It just means they might use a LITTLE less paint...but they probably won't. My painter used just as much paint on my convertible as he would have on a coupe...it's not really a whole lot of difference.
