How far to extend tips beyond bumper?

I just purchased 3 1/2" X 22" Chrome BoomTube exhaust pipes.

I now need to determine what is the ideal length that the BoomTube tips should extend beyond the bumper.

1. How long does your exgaust extend past the bumper.
2. Could you post a pic to show what this extension would look like? (Not a directly rear picture, but one that shows the extension of the tip(s) beyond the bumper.

Thanks.

Need this BEFORE TOMORROW. :-)

Re: How far to extend tips beyond bumper?

are they slashed/angled????
if so, from a sideview, let the tips and bumper angles follow the same "line"
make it as smooth as possible.
(make the longest {top} part of the "slash" flush with the bumper.)

anything else, make it flush....

just my opinion, i'm no expert.

i agree with the above, make the top of the tube flush with the edge of the bumper...

other wise it just looks ghetto

Those are SLP Dual-Dual tips. They didn't even bother messing with the visual appeal of it and just slapped em on. I got a great deal on the install but I guess dudes with mullets just dont care how well the pipes look. I still have to get it fixed but I have just not had the time.

agreed, it's very ghetto to have tips extend past your bumper....ESPECIALLY if they're the funnel style slash cup tips found on every truck these days

Do you mean at the widest or the narrowest? The muffler shop did mine, I thought they looked too far out at first but then I got used to them, now I'm not so sure:

Re: How far to extend tips beyond bumper?

Got the new muffler installed, and the chrome tips. I told them to have them extend 2" from the bumper.

WOW! You DEFINATELY can hear a difference from 3" to 3 1/2".

I took before pics, and I will be taking after pics soon. I also took video, and sound recordings and well as in car driving video to record interior noise all BEFORE the change.

I will duplicate all pics and video with the NEW muffler and 3 1/2" and hopefully will see and HEAR a difference.. I am sure the recording will capture it.. Much more deeper, throaty, and just plain.. wow... I'm definately happy with the results. :-)

i have a flowmaster 80 series with stock tips....
but i don't think it sounds loud enough...
would bigger tips really open it up?

I can tell you this, Changing from 3" to 3 1/2" today has DEFINATELY made for better sounding in MY car.

I hope to prove that it is not all in my imagination. People at work today have definately noticed a change without me mentioning the change.

I took video's and recordings before the change, and will do the same ones very soon so we can directly compare.

Re: How far to extend tips beyond bumper?

Ok. Before / New pics taken.

http://camarosource.ca/exhaust/

I am VERY happy with the sound results.. Wow! Definately an improvement. Much more deeper..

There are also video's in the folder to hear before/after. I have video's of the exhaust at idle, driving by close up, distance, in car video's, driving down parking lot and down streets (in car video's).

Most of these are between 15-50megs in size as most are at least 2-3 mins long.

As with all pics and video's. I tried to match up the "new" with the "before" pics/video's as closely as I could to get a exact comparison. The camera is sensitive to sound and so the breeze in the air, background cars driving by, results in some of the video's not sound that different.

But believe you me, the ne exhaust is MUST deeper and throaty sounding..

They do and their position coming out the back does as well. If they are pointed straight back or in a slight upward position you will hear less noise in the car. If you want it louder then go with a wider tip and keep it about 1 to 1.5 inches away from the top of the bumper. If you want it even louder, depending on where you’re located, if you want it downright noisy, you can always pull off the cat.

My tips are 8" wide X 1.5" and they definetly made my exhast note louder.
