How to care & maintain weatherstripping?

I want to do some preventative maintenance on my rubber weatherstripping. I was told that Vasalene is good stuff to rub on the rubber, can anyone confirm this?

Keep it clean---use a mild, non-alkaline carwash soap and a rag to clean it up. Then use whatever non-solvent, non-oil based rubber protectant that you like. Vinylex is a great product as it also has UV protection.

From the Owner's Manual....

Weatherstrips
Silicone grease on weatherstrips will make them last
longer, seal better, and not stick or squeak. Apply
silicone grease with a clean cloth at least every six
months. During very cold, damp weather more frequent
application may be required.

Wow good to know since Vasaline is oil based and that is a no-no!

The dialectic grease from autoparts or GM, comes in small tubes or packets, is silicone based.

Say NO to the Vaseline. Dielectric Silicone Grease is what is sited in the back of the owner's manual. I have heard others using a silcone spray as well. I use it in combo with a UV protectant dressing. Dressing first with a silicone grease chaser.

Silicone spray or spray-on leave-on tire spray will work. Silicone is a bit better than the tire spray, but silicone is a pain to spray on a rag because it seems to evaporate or absorb so quickly.

I've been using 303 Aerospace for a while now, it seems to do a good job. What Silicone spray do you guys use? the hot days of texas are coming and the sun took its toll on my now cracked dash pad (I stopped using 303 for a bit last year without a windshield sunshade) Id like to save my weatherstripping from the same fate.
