Hood questions

Ok, couple things

First off, I've heard some horror stories about the fit and finish of aftermarket hoods... So I'm trying to get a somewhat educated opinion here. I'm looking for an SS hood, and my 2 possibles are the ASCD SS hood, or go through GM restoration parts and get one.

Now I would much rather stay OEM, so here is my question.

On the GM restoration parts site they list 2 SS hoods:

11262 SMC Composite Ram Air Hood with Functional Scoop, Primed & Ready for Prep & Paint. Includes Air Box, Injection Molded Grille (S&H allow $155-$255 depending on location) 1 $1,199.00 N / A Chevrolet:Camaro SS:1998-02:All

11263 AVAIL 7-1-03 SMC Composite Ram Air Hood Primed & Ready for Prep. Models w/o Air Box; Includes Injection Molded Grille (S&H allow $155-$255 depending on location) 1 $899.00 N / A Chevrolet:Camaro SS:1998-02:All

Now are they referring to the stock airbox? If so I can order one w/o it and be ok correct? (my stock airbox is fine)

The ASCD hood is $695, but if I can get the OEM piece I'll drop the extra $200. If we're talking $1200 I'll just bite the bullet and go aftermarket.

Any input is greatly appriciated

IMHO go aftermarket you will more than likely have to "make" it fit
on the airbox deal you can use the stock but you just wont get ram air from the ss hood and if you are gonna just go with the stock airbox save the money and get a non functional aftermarket hood

Well The airbox isn't really a concern. I still have the stock one in there right now, and I'll be switching over to a lid or fipk (haven't decided yet) soon after I get the car back from the shop.

I think the fipk in conjunction with the SLP Ultra Z hood would be a great induction combo, but I just can't get past the looks of it

heh, I was going to tell you that you needed a real SS and the VIN# to get a replacement from GM, but then I noticed that you did... what happened man?
