Hood Liner

Since recently putting my new hood on, I don't have a liner underneath it anymore. Pretty soon it will be getting painted and what not. My question is, is there anyone here that knows if it is a must to have one, for the sake of the hood/paint?? The hood is fiberglass and is cowl induction. Thanks

I'm pretty sure its just incase the engine catches fire then it will fall on it and put it out. My cousin doesn't have one and his paint is fine. I wouldn't worry about it

I don't have one either, and I have no problems. I do keep a fire extinguisher though...you never know.

Are these with stock hoods or aftermarket fiberglass hoods?? Not sure if that would have any different effect or not

The matting under the hood is there to cut down on engine noise an that is it .

If you're worried about the heat from the engine bay possibly affecting the paint (on the topside), you should be okay. Many people have removed it and have had no problems. (Plus they really detract from the looks under the hood.)

Correction - that cover under the hood IS a fire blanket. And no, you don't need it. It's just a safety feature.

hood liner

If the mat on the underside of the hood is for fire , why does the parts manual call it Sound Insolater ?

Maybe dual-purpose...sound insolation/fire blanket

Question

I have an question.
Did the factory SS hoods have the insulator/sound deadener/fireblanket underneath? I was WANTING to install one on my hood. I'm kinda crazy that way.

If I remember right I don't remember seeing one underneaths Brent's SS. If there is one it wouldn't be much of one.

Bralgar, do you have any pics of the ZR28 spoiler. I have that spoiler but its not on yet. I also have a FFI hood

I just started a webshots page the other week but don't have much up yet but I do have a few pics of my Z. But they aren't very good as far as showing off the parts (wife took the pics)

Pics here

I'm just telling you facts. that's the whole reason why on my 98' 3.8 the mat is so far back, because that's where the engine is. And if you believe that a 1/2" peice of foamlike mat can insulate your engine noise to where it makes a difference, then we gotta talk.
