Ok guys....long story real short. I am extremely **** about how my car looks....but in the last year it has went down hill. Hit a diesel tire tread I couldnt avoid and then last week someone backed into my car and messed the paint up in front. I have a new job that by this time next year could be six figures (good possibility) but it may take two years. Either way I am getting married and trying to save money. My plans for the car area very high end custom paint job later. What I need right now is something to keep me from hating to even look at my car.
I went to maaco to see how much for their top of the line paint and clear would cost and look at some photos. They had a clean 3rd gen there. Anyway my car is straight and the quote was $1000. I would think that this paint job should hold me over for two years and look better than my rock chipped , damaged, and clear coat thinning GM job. I plan on prepping myself and removing taillights etc. ( anything that can catch overspray.
Yes or No!!
Its that or a car bra
and living with all the other flaws and I dont know that I can do that.

I think that if you pay $1,000 you will probably be happy with the work they do-I think most people that go to Maaco are upset because they pay $200 to get their whole car painted then wonder why it looks like crap.
They have the capability to do a good paint job, but if you don't pay them any money your not going to get a good paint job. My neighbor owns a Maaco and had his 1967 Chevy painted by the guys at his shop and its probably one of the nicest paint jobs I've seen. Just let them know how **** you are about you car, and make sure they can do a job that will satisfy you.

I've had a few people get Maaco's best paint (the $1k job) and have been rather satisfied. It's no show-car finish, but it actually comes out rather nice. If it would make you happy, then hell, it's only money.
It's the cheap Maaco paint jobs that give them a bad rep.

Don't go to Maaco.
In most paint and body cases - you get what you pay for...not true with Maaco.
Although, the "higher-end" paint jobs they give are actually painted by someone instead of a machine, but they still aren't great.
Just spend the money and get a good one that's done right all the way around. If you try to cheat, it will show.
I spent $7k on my trucks paint job, my buddy spent $1k on his T/A, and you can seriously tell the difference - its a MAJOR difference. And to be honest with you - I wouldn't want the $1,000 paint job at all.

I bought my 00 SS used, but the original owner had the car painted the Millenium Yellow the Vettes get. When I inquired about how much the job cost, the dealer said about 2gs. I know you might not want to spend that much, but I guarantee you that you will like what the dealer could do for you (depending on the color that you want, and who the dealer uses for the job). I am happy with the Yellow on my SS.
If you are planning on doing more in a few yrs...then just go ahead and do what you gotta do now to get by. Seriously...no biggie. Just make sure they know what you want...and what you expect...and make SURE that you settle on a price. Go for it. You'll be fine.
